Exteme Hurricane Season?

Author: ShearConvection

Well I think we are all starting to see the signs that a major hurricane season could be on our doorstep. I am also one of the folks out there (across the many) that think this hurricane season could be extremely active. I will go over that here

My fisrt clue is this here. A strong west/central based La Nina. This would likely promote lower shear across the Atlantic and would also be combined with those warmer Atlantic waters. Those 2 combined are typically a recipe for a good hurricane season.

I really like the Carribean area personally. Very low shear with boiling water is just what we have there. To give in to this, our current water temps in that area are running closer to June rather than Feburary. Very alarming indeed.

Accuweather made an article about this today, and I want to mention a key point they brought up

"Porter added that the water temperatures in the Main Development Region (MDR) at the end of January were a staggering 65% higher than the next closest year, a clear indication of how unusually warm the water is in this critical area of the Atlantic Ocean."

The graph above is combined with that statement from Meteorologist Porter. You can clearly see that waters so far this year are quite frankly groundbreaking. This heat in the water is just waiting to become a storm. I will have more details and a better look into this in later blogs.
