Beccas Jams and Jellies and I have worked together to bring you a new and improved weekly forecast! Here is your weekly market report for the week of 1/6/25 - 1/12/25. Don't forget you can come and see Becca and her famous Jellies at the Cotton Mill Farmers Market each Saturday between 9 and 11 AM!
Monday...
The rest of this evening will likely be cloudy, with a chance for a few more isolated flurries. Many spots in Temple saw some flurries this afternoon. However, these flurries did not bring any accumulation and were just eye candy. Expect cooling temperatures through the rest of the evening and overnight, with gusty winds causing your "feel-like" temperatures to be in the teens. Low Temperatures in the low 30s or upper 20s.
Tuesday...
Expect a much more sunny day, but cold. Temperatures may be able to hit the low 40s but may stay in the 30s all day. Farmers and growers should be extra cautious about protecting plants and outdoor vegetation throughout the entire week. We have not seen temperatures this cold in months so pipes may be prone to bursting. If you have a camper or outdoor items that have pipes, be cognisant of this threat from Tuesday onward.
Wednesday...
While Wednesday is currently projected to be sunny, Wednesday will most likely be our coldest day of the week. Temperatures will struggle to make it into the 40s, with lows well into the Teens. It may even feel as cold as single digits if the winds happen to be strong enough. Speaking of that, winds will likely be a little gusty with sustained winds in the 10 - 15 mph range. 100% will need your winter gear! Growers and farmers, make sure you are ALREADY prepared for extreme cold in our area.
Thursday...
Thursday will start off Sunny, but will likely become increasingly cloudy as the day moves on. Multiple days of sun will warm us up a little with Temperatures likely somewhere in the 40s for a high and mid-20s for the low. As clouds move in, expect a cap to form on our temperature and likely cause gustier winds along with decreasing temperatures by evening time. Overnight will be more cloudy and cold. Everyone should be prepared for Friday's potential winter weather event at this point.
Friday...
If you want me to start out with some good news, winds most likely won't be as bad on Friday as the rest of the week.

Here are our latest GFS Ensemble snow accumulations for the area. As shown, the latest models have been quickly increasing this value, and this run brings us 2 - 3 inches of snow. These quick uptrends are concerning, and I think they make sense.
The reason I agree with them is due to the snowpack to our north. This will likely bring in cooler air, putting us below freezing, and thus increasing our risk for snow. A significant Ice storm is also possible.
An Ice storm is something we around here haven't experienced in a long time. Ice storms can be very damaging to outdoor powerlines and trees due to the extra amount of weight they put on them. I recommend trimming trees back this week to prevent that risk. I also recommend getting a generator if you can afford one ahead of this storm. It can keep your essentials energized through the winter weather event.
All in all, this could be a very impactful storm, and I am forecasting 1 - 3 inches of snow and/or ice at this time, be prepared for closures as this week progresses! Also, begin to prepare for a long-term event by stocking up on NON-PERISHABLES. Do not get items that need to be refrigerated or cooked! Find Items such as canned goods, Vienna sausages are a good example.
Saturday (Market Day!)...
Snow flurries or showers remain possible in the morning. Poor Road conditions should improve throughout the day. Travel could still be treacherous, as temperatures will not reach 40. Any additional accumulations in the morning should be very minor.
You can visit Becca's Jams and Jellies at the Cotton Mill Farmers Market in Carrollton from 9 am to 11 am! I forecast that this farmer's market on Saturday may be canceled due to inclement weather, however, we will have to wait and see! Becca will be selling 27 unique flavors WITH free samples!
Sunday...
Sunday's forecast should be a relatively sunny day, with increasing temperatures. I can see us reaching into the 40s with lows in the 20s, similar to Thursday. This forecast is far out, but snow should not be an issue, and should hopefully start melting as the recovery process begins. (That also will likely be the return of a lot of bread, milk, and toilet paper, haha)
Overview...
Expect a wild week with temperatures fluctuating plenty, and a potential winter storm late in the week! Expect snow, Ice, and even Rain with that storm! Check back on TempleWXBlog to receive the latest on the incoming winter storm.
